December Bucket List: Guaranteed Holiday Cheer

December Bucket List: Guaranteed Holiday Cheer

Happy (Black) Friday!!  I couldn’t wait until the first weekend of December to post my December bucket list because we all know that the day after Thanksgiving is the official kick-off to the holiday season – am I right?

Are you a Black Friday Shopper or a rest and relaxer the day after Thanksgiving?  I am a mix of both.  Some years I am pumped and ready to shop-til-I-drop, while others I just want to stay home, watch Christmas movies, and decorate my house.

My December bucket list covers 5 essential holiday activities, however, you can check out my full list of family Christmas traditions here

December Bucket List

1. Christmas Cookies

Decorating Christmas cookies is one of my favorite things to do in December.  I love to bake and make cute treats.  December just gives me that much more of an excuse to do one of my favorite things!

2. Gingerbread Houses

Decorating gingerbread houses is also a fun tradition in our house.

Gingerbread House Tips

  • The prebuilt gingerbread houses (usually sold at Bed, Bath & Beyond or Amazon) are more expensive, but worth it if you have young kids who can’t assemble their own homes. (affiliate link here)
  • Buy extra candies and decorations to make it a little more fun

3. Pictures With Santa

Pictures with the “mall Santa” is a tradition as old as time.  The mall near us takes reservations, which allows you to skip to the front of the line at your scheduled time.  The only catch is that you have to buy the picture package ahead of time to reserve your spot.  Honestly, if I am waiting in a super long line I am DEFINITELY buying those darn pictures, so I may as well buy them upfront and save us all a couple of hours (and our sanity).

4. Christmas Lights

I’ll take Christmas lights any way I can get them.  I like to put them up at home, I like to drive around and see how different neighborhoods decorate for the holidays, and I also make it a point to visit our local Fantasy of Lights display.

5. Christmas Eve Candlelight Service

Nothing is more magical than the Candlelight Service on Christmas Eve.  Nothing.  It is one of my favorite things.
