How To Make A Minion Costume

To make a DIY minion costume is easier than you might think.  You probably already have everything you need.

All you need is a yellow shirt, blue overalls, and glasses.  That’s it.

Glasses

Whether its one eye or two eyes, all minions have glasses.  We made our glasses out of cardboard, but there are other ways to make them.  I think mason jar lids also make great minion-esque glasses.

Wear them directly on your eyes like actual glasses, or do like we did and attach them to a hat or headpiece.

Shirt

In order to be a true minion, you have to have a yellow shirt.  It can be a short sleeve, a long sleeve, or a tank top.  Doesn’t matter as long as it’s bright yellow.

I have found the cheapest place to buy solid-colored cotton t-shirts is actually at Hobby Lobby.  They are regularly marked down and can be purchased for around $2.  Also, give your local thrift shops and/or consignment shops a try.  You never know what you will be able to find there!

Overalls

Last, but definitely not least, are the blue overalls.  I personally feel like anything blue or denim on your lower half will suffice.  We rolled with a blue tulle skirt, tall blue soccer socks, and ribbon suspenders, but there are so many different options you can take and run with:

  • Denim pant overalls
  • Short overalls
  • Blue Soffe shorts
  • Blue tulle skirt
  • Suspenders
  • Denim Pants
  • Denim Skirt
  • Blue Jumper

Check Amazon, thrift stores, consignment shops, and even your own closet.  Take a close look at what you already own.  Pull everything out that is in the correct shade of blue and see if you can mix and match an outfit that way.
