A Lively Recap vol. 3

A Lively Recap vol. 3

Hey Y’all! I am actually exhausted beyond belief in this moment.  The weather lately has been absolutely gorgeous.  Decreased humidity, cooler temps, and far fewer mosquitoes.

I gotta tell ya, I have been a movin’ and a shakin’!  My poor body isn’t used to this level of activity.  It has adjusted nicely to a more sedentary lifestyle. My bones feel like they have been replaced with sandbags. No regrets because it has been wonderful.

We squeezed in a little fall fun where we could this week. Reese had her first day of preschool and was as adorable as ever. I’ve come to realize I was born in the wrong decade.  Last, but not least, with all the fun and exciting things going on I have had a little trouble focusing on work (anyone who knows me is not shocked at all).  I researched a few ways to improve focus in an attempt to be a better employee…

Oh, and my house stinks…

Fall Fun

Fall officially started for me on September 1st.  I kicked it into high-gear by getting my Friday Frive Autumn Activities up.  OMG I can hardly wait to hit up the apple orchard! Maybe I’ll work that into the schedule for next weekend?

I worked in the yard this weekend, which was long overdue! It felt good to get outside and start whipping this place back into shape.

Being the first weekend of (my) fall season I wanted to work in a few craft projects.  My kids love craft projects, but especially my daughter!  These crafts used tape AND glue – she was in heaven! I grabbed inspiration from a few of the pumpkin crafts featured on my Easy Pumpkin Crafts post.

I’m working on a how-to post for these cute pumpkin masterpieces.  Hopefully I’ll have that ready soon!

50's Housewife

I am truly the worst millennial woman.  A proper millennial woman should be out there supporting the cause…equal rights…we can do anything men can do…I can run a company and raise a family…but all I really want to do is have supper on the table when my bread-winning husband gets off work at 5.  I think I was born in the wrong decade.  Don’t get me wrong, I love the option of being able to work, handle my own business, and lead an independent life! Women are badasses (100%), but this badass woman just wants to take care of the kids and keep the house clean.

How to Focus

Since being a 50’s housewife only a fantasy, I must continue on as a working mom.  Honestly though, I’m not that great of a working mom. I have a terrible time focusing on work.  It could be because I am not passionate about it (see above), but even still, I should be able to work without my mind wandering or getting easily distracted.

It definitely doesn’t help that I am currently working from home.  All I do all day is stare at my cabinets that need their underside painted, my picture ledges that need styling, and a sink full of dishes that need washing.

There is a pretty decent chance I won’t actually do any of these things to improve my focus, but I am sharing what I found. You are welcome.

I reviewed several different articles on improving focus and these were the suggestions I saw most often.

Tips to Improve Focus

  • Exercise – especially in the morning.  Get your blood flowing for 20 minutes to help spark your mind and and help develop stronger focus throughout the day.
  • Diet – Avoiding overly process, high sugar, high fat foods.  Increase “brainfoods“.
  • Eliminate distractions.  If your phone is distracting, put it on airplane mode.
  • Take breaks. Small breaks may help refresh your mind.
  • Sleep.  7-8 hours a night is recommended.
  • Set goals. Make a list each hour of things you would like to accomplish within that hour.
  • Practice mindfulness. Meditation, yoga, and other mindfulness practices have several health benefits, including concentration and focus.
How To Focus

Reese Preschool

My baby had her first day of preschool this week.  I was surprised to find that she did not want to go to preschool.  She was scared.  Thankfully, Tuesday was an open house orientation.  During open house each child visits for about 30-45 minutes with his/her parents.  Once we were in the classroom for a little bit she said “Mom, there isn’t anyone scary in here.” and that was that.

Thursday was the real deal.  She woke up Thursday morning ready to go.  Got herself dressed, picked out her shoes and bows (for her, myself, and for her 2 teachers), and even was a willing participant in the “first day of school” picture I insist on taking before we leave.

When I picked her up she said “It was great, mom!” and that was all I ever wanted to hear!

Stinky House

Lastly, and most devastatingly, my house has an odor that I just can’t seem to locate.  I cleaned the sink with baking soda and vinegar (twice), took out the trash, threw out any questionable produce, sniffed around, yet the smell continues to linger.  What in the world is the source of this stink?

Honestly, it smells like old food, but I can’t find smelly food anywhere!

If this problem hasn’t been resolved by next week I am inviting people over for a stink hunt.
