How To Make Ice Marbles

Hey, y’all!  Consider this a post for next winter.  I had every intention of sharing how to make ice marbles earlier, but here we are in March finally posting it.  Oh well!

Making ice marbles is a super simple winter activity that your kids will love! Seriously, couldn’t be more simple.  The only required supplies are balloons, food coloring, and water.  That’s it! You probably have all that stuff tucked away in your cabinets already.

Ice marbles are simple to make.  The only difficult thing about them is the patience it takes to wait for them to completely freeze.

Grab a few balloons, a little food coloring, and head on over to the sink.  Drop of a few (or 10) drops of food coloring inside the deflated balloon.  Obviously the more food coloring, the more vibrant the marble will be in the end.  I recommend using at least 10 drops per balloon.

Once the food coloring is inside the balloon, place the opening of the balloon onto the faucet.  Fill with water the same way you would a regular water balloon.  Tie off each balloon then place outside.

Here is the hard part.  It will take AT LEAST 24 hours for the balloons to fully freeze.  Ours actually took 48 hours.  Give each one a little squeeze before removing the balloon.  If you feel even the slightest bit of give, leave for another few hours.

Check out The Ultimate Snow Day post for inspiration and ideas.  One of my favorite things to do is make Snow Ice Cream.

Have you made ice marbles before?  If so, how did it go?  If not, what is your favorite thing to do on a snow day?  I am always looking for fun, new things to do.
