Friday Five: Family Games

Hi all! Welome to the first installment of my new Friday Five series. Each week I will select a new theme and share my five favorite items that go with that theme. This week I started with “family games” as my theme. We are a family who loves games of all kinds, so it seemed like the perfect first pick.

I am in the process of developing more (or any type) of a schedule for my Facebook page. Recently, I have been posting anything and everything that pops into my mind, which doesn’t always make sense. A schedule will (hopefully) give a sense of organization and professionalism (fingers crossed). The first official “scheduled” post was my Friday Five series. It went over really well and I am super excited about it. It wasn’t until today that it occured to me to post it on my webiste as well.

1. ZINGO

Zingo is the only game here that I don’t have any experience with. However, based on the ratings and reading the product description, I think my kids would love it. A few things on the Amazon listing that sold me on Zingo were:

Perfect for pre-readers & early readers
Develops language and matching skills
Clear instructions
Won several awards: Oppenheim Gold, Parents’ Choice Award, ASTRA Best Toys for Kids Award, and is a three time Toy of the Year Nominee

I think Zingo will make its way under our Christmas tree this year.

2. JENGA

Talk about a classic game. My kids are freakishly good at Jenga. When we first played a few months ago I was certain it was going to end in a disaster – them frustrated they couldn’t do it, me frustrated becuase I had to constantly set up the blocks over and over again…but, no! They were great AND they loved it!

3. POP THE PIG

Pop the Pig might be the most played game at our house. It’s a great way to teach counting to pre-school aged kids. My 5 year old son is getting a little too old for Pop the Pig, but he still enjoys the anticipation of popping the pig.

4. HOOT OWL HOOT

Hoot Owl Hoot is one of my favorite games as a parent. It is a cooperative strategy game, which means we win as a team or we lose as a team. It is set up in such a way that we can increase the difficulty depending on who is playing.

5. GOOEY LOUIE

Gooey Louie is just one of those funny games. We got it for my son because he was ALWAYS picking his nose. We had no idea it would be so fun to play. It’s relatively easy to set up and each game only takes a few minutes. I would definitely recommend for any family looking for a simple game that will make you laugh.
