Our Favorite Bedtime Books (October 2019)

Who else has a love/hate relationship with bedtime?

My kids are sooo snuggly when they are tired. I usually let them pick out 2-3 books before we cozy up in bed.

Precious little angels.

What I just described is the edited version of bedtime at my house. We (almost) always get to the “precious little angels” part, but there is quite a bit of carrying on that happens before we get there.

I left out the part where they refuse to brush their teeth, so Grant or I basically have to wrestle them to get it done. I also left out the part where they scream and cry and try to convince me they aren’t tired or that they only need a few more minutes to finish their show/game/snack/etc. I also left out the part where I scream (and want to cry). It’s a R E A L process we have over here.

I look forward to and dread bedtime each and every day. (heavy sigh – It’s exhausting being me! If you think our bedtime routine sounds hectic, check out a typical morning at our house!). However, I will say the one thing they never complain about is reading books before bed.

I LOVE reading books with them each night. It is such a nice way to unwind before bed. One thing that keeps our bedtime reading fun is changing up our books every so often. We got to a point where all four of us had almost all of our books memorized. Don’t get me wrong, there is still a benefit to reading books over and over again, but it is also fun to get to experience a new stories together

My favorite place to find new books...

My favorite place to pick up new books is at yard sales. People practically give  away their old books at yard sales. I don’t think I have paid more than a $1/book (if that) at any yard sale.

Another method is the library (obviously), but I much prefer the yard sale option. My issue with library books is that I always have to know where they are. I have to make sure they aren’t being damaged and that they are returned on time. With yard sale books I can always resell them and make my money back once we outgrow them (or at least that is what I tell myself).

Our current favorite books...

I have listed a few of our current favorite books below. I have included the Amazon link in case you are looking to add some new books into your reading rotation. It is an affiliate link, which means if you purchase from the link I will receive a small commission at no additional charge to you.

I’d love to know your favorite books.  We are always looking to add to our collection! Please leave some suggestions in the comments below and I will be sure to check them out.

Thanks for stopping by!
