Friday Five: How To Make Yummy and Unique S’mores

Friday Five: How To Make Yummy and Unique S’mores

Hey, ya’ll!  I am checking things off of my Fall Fun List left and right! Last week was centered around apples with a trip to the apple orchard, while this week is all about the s’more. Today is not just about how to make s’mores, but also how to make five different versions of the s’more.

Fun Fact: Did you know that the s’more was first officially documented by the Girl Scouts?  Read more about the history of the s’more here.

Some say s’mores are a summer snack, but I think s’mores are the quintessential fall campfire food.  I mean, you can’t wear a hooded sweatshirt while you sit by the fire during the summer!! I know my opinion isn’t law, so you do whatever makes you happy!

How To Make S'mores

1. Traditional S'more

A traditional s’more is hard to beat.

Graham Crackers, Hershey’s Chocolate, and a toasted marshmallow.

Simple.  Classic.

2. Reese Cup S'more

A Reese Cup s’more is one of my favorites.  The Reese Cup is a lot softer than the traditional Hershey’s bar, therefore making it a perfect compliment to a warm, toasty marshmallow.

3. Chocolate Frosting S'more

Replace the Hershey’s bar with chocolate frosting and be prepared to have your mind blown.

4. Lorna Doone S'more

Lorna Doone’s remind me of my mom.  One day she claimed they were one of her favorite cookies, but I just couldn’t accept it.  How could the Lorna Doone be one of her favorite cookies when I had never heard of them before?  Nonetheless, I’ve heard of them now and they make a great addition to the s’more family.

5. E.L. Fudge Stripe S'more

The beauty of the E.L. Fudge cookie is it has a built in layer of chocolate.  So yum!

no Fire? No Problem!

Do you ever have a hankering for a s’more, but don’t feel like building a small fire in the yard?  Same here.  Luckily, a delicious s’more can be prepared pretty much anywhere at anytime.

How To Make S'mores Indoors

  • Microwave: Place an “open-faced” s’more on a microwave safe plate.  Put it in the microwave for 10-15 seconds.  The marshmallow will expand a bit and the chocolate bar will slightly melt.  Don’t hate me, but I think this makes a better s’more than a campfire.  With this method the chocolate is nice and gooey, something that doesn’t happen with a fire roasted mallow.
  • Oven: I got this recipe from Food Network. Preheat oven to 400 degrees. Place graham crackers, chocolate bars, then marshmallows on a cookie sheet.  Cook for 3-5 minutes until marshmallows are big and golden brown.  Remove from oven then place graham cracker on top.
  • Stove: If you have a gas powered range you can roast marshmallows over the open flame.  Easy-peasy.
