Easy Pumpkin Crafts for Preschoolers

Easy Pumpkin Crafts for Preschoolers

The first week of September definitely called for a few fall crafts. These easy pumpkin crafts for preschooler’s were the perfect way to start.  My kiddo’s loved them.

I knew I wanted to get a little crafty, but wasn’t sure what exactly I wanted to do.  I used a few of the ideas from Easy Pumpkin Crafts for Kids for inspiration. Each craft was slightly modified because I didn’t have the exact supplies they used on hand. Both turned out adorable.

Sewing Pumpkin Craft

I was drawn to this one because I knew we had a stack of paper plates just waiting to be used in some sort of craft project.  I scrounged up some orange yarn, cut what was supposed to resemble a pumpkin out of the center of the plate, popped a few holes around the edges, and we went to town.

My preschooler was a little lost on the “sewing” concept, so we found that working together was best.  She picked the hole and stuck the yarn in then I helped pull the rest of the string though.  No big deal, sometimes working together makes it a little more special for our little ones. Either way, it all worked out and we both had fun.

Required Supplies:

  • Paper plates
  • Orange yarn
  • Scissors/Exacto knife
  • Invisible tape
  • 2-3″ stick
  • Hole punch tool

Directions:

  1. Use scissors or exacto knife to cut a pumpkin shape out of the center of the paper plate.
  2. Use hole punch to punch holes around the pumpkin shape.
  3. Tape one end of the string to the back side of the plate to secure it.
  4. Weave the yarn in and out of the different holes until you have a masterpiece.
  5. Tape the other end of the string to the back of the plate.
  6. Use tape to secure stick to the top of the plate to create the stem. (Elmer’s glue or hot glue work just as well, but my daughter was super excited to use tape, so that’s what we used!).

Scrap Paper Pumpkin Craft

This scrap paper pumpkin was a lot of fun too.  We gathered up our supplies and sat outside.  It was a lovely day here in southern Indiana.  The first humid-free day we have had in months.

We each had a slightly different idea of how we wanted our finished pumpkin to look.  That’s the beauty of this particular craft, the artist can take as many creative liberties as desired. Definitely one of the easier pumpkin crafts for preschoolers.

Required Supplies

  • Several different types/tones/styles of orange paper (I used 2 shades of orange construction paper, orange crepe paper, orange tissue paper)
  • Scissors
  • White, green, & brown construction paper.  (White sheet should be large.  Green & Brown can be small or scratch pieces)
  • Glue
  • Pencil

Directions:

  1. Cut or tear the orange paper into small sections. I tore it with my hands because I liked the look of the rough edges.
  2. Draw a pumpkin in the center of the large whie sheet of paper.
  3. Use glue to place the small pieces of orange paper to the white paper pumpkin.
  4. Repeat until pumpkin looks as desired.

Variations

These pumpkin crafts for preschooler’s lend themselves to other seasons as well.  Both crafts can easily be shifted to suit other themes, such as:

  • Apple – Fall
  • Ghost – Halloween
  • Christmas Tree – Christmas
  • Candy Cane – Christmas
  • Easter Egg – Easter
  • Carrot – Easter
  • Sun – Summer

I hope you and your preschooler enjoy these crafts!  Let me know in the comments which one you tried!

Until next time,

Julie
