It’s apple week and I can’t wait to share all of these fun apple activities foryour preschooler (or any aged kiddo). I’ve got apple books, games, snacks, worksheets, etc. that I am sure your kids will love!
This week’s post is a little different than my usual posts. One of my best friends, Mindy, is a former kindergarten teacher who now homeschools her 3 boys recently started a fun Instagram page (@harvest.the.hope) where she shares all about faith, family, and gardening. She and I thought it would be fun to work on an apple-themed activity week together. Our first “collab”, if you will.
All of the activities we mention on our Instagram is or will be listed in detail below. One of us might decide to go “off script” during the week, so I will make sure everything is added at the end of the week.
We have SO MANY fun apple-themed things planned, so make sure you are following both of us on Instagram – @ourlivelyadventures and @harvest.the.hope.
Apple-Themed Fun
Apple Orchard
An obvious choice for apple-themed fun is a visit to the apple orchard. Getting to see first-hand how apples grow, where they come from, and how they get from the farm to your table is an amazing experience.
The best way to find a local apple orchard is to google “Apple Orchards Near Me” or “U-Pick Fruit Near Me”. Oftentimes orchards are on the outskirts of town, so you may have to do a little driving to get there.
If you live in the Evansville, IN area you can check out some of my favorite U-Pick Fruit places (here).
Spiced Apple Playdough
This Spiced Apple Playdough by Kitchen Floor Crafts is the perfect activity for an apple-themed week!
Grab the ingredients listed below. Mix all together then warm over medium-low heat until dough starts to form. Dump onto a flat table and knead until smooth. Add cinnamon stick and bay leaf to create the stem and leaves.
Ingredients:
1 C flour 1/2 C salt 2 tsp cream of tartar 1 package of strawberry Jell-O mix 1 tsp groun cinnamon 1/2 tsp all spice 1/4 tsp ground cloves 2 Tbls vegetable oil 1 C water 1 tsp vanilla
Apple Puffy Slime
My favorite puffy slime recipe can be adapted to suit pretty much any theme. I used a little (actually A LOT) red food coloring, add a stick and a leaf, and voila! You’ve got yourself some Apple Puffy Sime!
In this picture, it doesn’t look very red, but it took an entire bottle of food coloring to get this shade! Keep that in mind when you are buying supplies.
Apple stamping is super simple. Slice apples in half, dip the cut side into paint, and start stamping!
You could also dip the apples in orange paint to make pumpkins then paint jack-o-lantern faces on them once they have dried.
Apple-Themed Books
Our Favorites
The Apple Pie Tree
The Apple Pie Tree by Zoe Hall is a story of how a tree grows and eventually turns into an apple pie. It explains the process of growing leaves, then blossoms, then fruit, and then finally harvest. Beautiful illustrations and perfect preschoolers.
Ten Apples Up On Top
Ten Apples Up On Top by Dr. Seuss is a cute story about friends trying to stack their apples. Dr. Seuss’s books are always a winner in our house!
Secrets Of The Apple Tree
Grab a flashlight and Secrets Of The Apple Tree by Carron Brown and get to reading. This book is wonderfully interactive with hidden pictures and messages on each page.
I’ve created several Apple-themed worksheets perfect for your preschooler or kindergartener. All you have to do is enter your first name and email address below and press “subscribe”. The printables will be in your mailbox within minutes!
I hope you enjoy!
Apple Themed Snacks
Apple Donuts
A super simple snack that is slightly healthier than a typical donut (but only slightly).
Slice apples to desired thickness and remove the core. Slather on whatever “donut toppings” you love and enjoy!
Topping ideas: Peanut butter, cake frosting, Nutella, mini chocolate chips, mini M&M’s, sprinkles, crushed nuts, coconut flakes.
Apple Cinnamon Rolls
Y’all know I love a cute cinnamon roll, so how could I not make an apple-themed one?
To make the stem, I used a pretzel rod cut in half.
Apple Pretzel Bites
My kids informed me that these don’t look like apples, but I think they are adorable!
Place a red candy melt on top of a preztel (I used Snyder’s of Hanover Snaps). Place in a low heat oven (mine was 200 degrees) for 5-10 minutes, until soft.
Use the red, green, and brown mini M&M’s to create the apple pattern while the candy melt is still warm.
