6 Easy Recipes For Edible Play Dough

6 Easy Recipes For Edible Play Dough

Hi guys! Today I am sharing a few fun recipes for edible play dough! If your kiddos are anything like mine, they go nuts over any type of play dough, slime, goop, foam, etc.

What’s fun about the play dough recipes that I am sharing today is that they are all edible.  With them being safe to eat it makes them a great option for little ones who still have a tendency to put things in their mouths.

I’ve got 6 different recipes for edible play dough for you to try!  Check them out and let me know what you think!

Edible Play Dough Recipes

Traditional Play Dough

This is the play dough from my childhood.  It’s the one my mom used to make.  It’s so soft and has a very distinct texture and smell to it.  It’s an easy recipe, makes quite a bit, and lasts a long time!

It’s edible, but I can’t imagine it would taste very good.

  • Ingredients:
    • Flour (2 Cup)
    • Salt (1 Cup)
    • Cream of Tartar (4 tsp)
    • Cooking Oil (4 Tablespoons)
    • Water (2 Cups)
    • Food Coloring (Optional)

Cook over medium heat stirring constantly until ball forms.  Kneed and store in an air-tight container.

Pudding Play Dough

  • Ingredients:
    • Instant Pudding Mix (1/4 Cup)
    • Corn Starch (1 Cup, Divided)
    • Warm Water (1/3 Cup)
    • Food Coloring (Optional)

Jell-O Play Dough

  • Ingredients:
    • Flour (1 Cup + a little extra for kneading)
    • Warm Water (1 Cup)
    • Salt (2 Tablespoons)
    • Cream of Tartar (2 Tablespoons)
    • Oil (2 Tablespoons)
    • Box of Jell-O

While this play dough recipe has a few more ingredients than the other edible play dough recipes, the whole process is still super simple.  Dump all the ingredients into a saucepan and cook over medium heat.  Continue to stir the dough until a thick ball forms.  You will know when it is done! Plop onto a cutting board or baking sheet to let cool.  Once cool, use a little flour to knead it until it is no longer sticky.

Frosting Play Dough

  • Ingredients:
    • Whipped Vanilla Frosting (1 Cup)
    • Powdered Sugar (2 ¾ Cups)

Use a spoon to mix the frosting with the powdered sugar once it becomes difficult to stir switch to kneading by hand.  Keep going until you reach your desired consistency.  Too sticky?  Add more powdered sugar a little at a time.  Too dry?  Add a bit of water.

Peanut Butter Play Dough

  • Ingredients:
    • Peanut Butter (1 Cup)
    • Powdered Sugar (2.5 Cups)

I really love any project that only requires 2 ingredients!  Mix the peanut butter with the powdered sugar.  Start with a spoon then switch to kneading by hand.  Let chill in the fridge for 20 minutes or so to firm up then get to playing!
