I didn’t have snow ice cream as a child. It wasn’t until I was an adult that I tried it for the first time. I’m not sure how I went my entire childhood without experiencing the fun, snow day treat, but I did.
While I am at it, I’ll tell you another secret…
I have a love/hate relationship with the snow. Sure, snow is absolutely beautiful! Nothing is more calm and quiet than a fresh blanket of snow covering the ground. There are also a lot of fun things to do in the snow, sledding, building a snowman, etc.
HOWEVER, I hate being cold. As we all know, that is an unavoidable side effect of spending any time in the snow, regardless of how many layers I attempt to put on. I also hate the gray skies, the slushy roads, and the cabin fever that also comes along with snow.
I guess what I am saying is, if I could plan my perfect winter, it would involve one giant snowfall (you know, to fit in the few fun snow-related things), then I would like the snow to disappear and move right on into Spring.
Alas, a girl can dream…
Anyway, we are hear to talk about how to make snow ice cream because it is definitely one of the few fun things about snow.
How To Make Snow Ice Cream
First, gather the ingredients. One of the great things about snow ice cream is that it requires very few ingredients. First gather the milk, sugar, and vanilla.
Next, whisk together the milk, sugar, and vanilla into a small bowl. Once the milk, sugar, and vanilla are good and mixed, head outside to get 5-6 cups of fresh snow.
Now, this should go without saying, but just in case…avoid snow that has any dirt, leaves, sticks, or anything else that might be in your yard (cough) dog poop (cough) dog pee (cough).
Alright, now that THAT is out of the way. Head back inside with your bowl of snow.
Pour the milk, sugar, and vanilla mixture over the snow and stir until well combined.
Serve right away because snow ice cream melts quickly. Add any toppings you like. We love to add sprinkles to ours.
Enjoy your snow ice cream!!
