Gel Blaster Surge [Toy Review]

Gel Blaster Surge [Toy Review]

Today we are talking all about the Gel Blaster Surge toy Wyatt got as a Christmas gift this past Christmas.  As a mom and a frequent gift purchaser, I like to know a little bit about what I’m buying.  I read the reviews, the 5-star, the 1-star, and everything in between.  I want to know if the toy I’m eyeballing is a pain in the but to assemble, if it uses a ton of batteries, and/or if the toy usually breaks within the first 3 months.

What I am hoping to do here and going forward is provide a detailed, honest review of some of the toys we have come across.  Hopefully, someone finds this helpful! [If you are one of those people, please say hi in the comments!!]

So, my son Wyatt received the Gel Blaster Surge bundle as a Christmas present.  At 8 years old, he is definitely on the younger side of the recommended age of 14 years and older. Despite him being young, he had a blast with his gel blaster. In fact, everyone in our family, including our 6-year-old had fun shooting these guns.

We purchased the 2-pack surge bundle because what fun is a toy gun if you don’t have anyone to play with? The Gel Blaster Surge ammo (called Gellets) definitely pack a punch (i.e. sting quite a bit).  Eye protection and thick clothing are a must with this toy! Think of a modern-day, less messy version of paintball!

Alrighty, I guess it’s time to get into it!  Keep on scrollin’ for a full review of the Gel Blaster Surge!

Recommended Age: 14+

Manufacturer: Gel Blaster

Quick Review

  • GELLETS: Eco-Friendly, Non-Toxic, Non-Staining Water Based Gel Balls.
  • ADJUSTABLE MODES: Single shot for precision or Fully Automatic for a whopping 10 gellets per second.
  • LITHIUM ION BATTERY: Allows for 4 hours of play on a 45-minute charge.
  • COMES READY TO BLAST: Everything you need comes with the purchase of the Gel Blaster Surge.

What You Get

Gel Blaster prides itself on being “Ready To Blast Out Of The Box,” which means they provide everything you need to have fun as soon as your Gel Blaster Surge arrives.

What you get:

1 Surge Blaster, 1-preloaded gravity-fed hopper with 800 pre-hydrated Gellets, 1 USB-C fast charging cable, 1 set of 2 velocity barrels, 1 pair of adjustable safety glasses, and 1 package of 10,000 Gellets.

How To Play

As previously mentioned, the Gel Blaster Surge comes “ready to go”, but what happens when that initial charge runs out or you blast through the first round of 800 pre-loaded Gellets?

The Gel Blaster Surge is charged by a USB cable. Charge for 45 minutes to get 4 hours of play.

The Gellet refills come dehydrated, which means they must be soaked in water before they can be used in the Gel Blaster. Allow 4 hours of soak time for them to be fully hydrated.

Ease Of Cleanup

Cleanup is super simple. The Gellets break down quickly outside, so there is no need to pick them up. All there is to do is store your Gell Blaster! [I recommend this method of storing]

Pro's & Con's

PRO

  • Super fun
  • Easy to use
  • Gets kids outside running around

CON

  • Takes a bit of planning to make sure everything is charged and the Gellets are hydrated
  • Getting hit with a Gellet does sting a bit, but nothing a layer or two of clothing won’t fix.

Rating

Mom Rating: 5 out of 5: I think it’s a really cool toy, especially for older kids.  I love that it doesn’t use batteries and that I’m not constantly picking up bullets or darts all over the place.  It’s really fun to shoot, but not fun to get hit.

Dad Rating: [waiting on submission]

Wyatt Rating: 4 out of 5 – “It’s the best when its winter because then it doesn’t hurt as bad when you get shot because of the thick clothes”

Reese Rating: 4 out of 5 – “Fun, but it hurts when you get shot”
