Here we are again, another Tuesday! This week I am trying the Four Sigmatic Mushroom Coffee. Coffee made with mushrooms – weird and exciting, am I right?
A friend of mine introduced me to this product a while back. She said it was all over Instagram and TikTok. I may be late to the mushroom coffee trend, but better late than never!

Benefits of Mushroom Coffee
Don’t quote me as a medical professional, but a quick Google search landed me with these benefits associated with drinking mushroom coffee:
- Can improve the body’s response to stress
- Improved immunity
- Potential for reducing cholesterol
- Possibly suppresses food allergies
- Anti-ulcer
- Cancer prevention
How is Mushroom Coffee Made?
When I first heard about mushroom coffee, my mind didn’t know what to think. So, of course, a little detective work was in order. Thankfully, I found a Healthline article that explained the process to me. Mushroom coffee is made by dehydrating medicinal mushrooms, grinding them into a fine powder, then mixing the powder with ground coffee beans. These grounds can then be used in the same way traditional coffee is used.
I then took a deeper dive on medicinal mushrooms…you can make your way down that rabbit hole here.
About Four Sigmatic
The Four Sigmatic company was founded in Finland. Four Sigmatic actually means the planet’s most nutrient-dense foods. I had to read the Four Sigma’s website several times to actually understand, but food in the four sigmatic category means it is four standard deviations above average foods. So, like super healthy. Apparently, only 100 foods fall into this category.
Four Sigmatic has a pretty neat history and their website has a lot of really good information. You can read more about it here.
My Final Thoughts: Four Sigmatic Mushroom Coffee
Okay, so what did I think? My regular brew is your standard medium-roast k-cup with almond milk creamer. Not a coffee snob by any stretch of the imagination.
As far as coffee goes, they offer 3 different types of coffee: ground coffee, coffee mix, and coffee pods. I thought I ordered the coffee pods but accidentally ordered the coffee mix instead.
I’ve never tried coffee mix before, so this was a completely new experience for me. The instructions were simple enough – mix contents of package with 7oz of hot water. Easy peasy.
The final result was a cup of coffee that looked, smelled, and tasted like regular coffee. Actually, it tasted better than the coffee I usually buy. I don’t know if that is actually saying much, but I can say that I enjoyed it without any additional cream and sugar (and that is DEFINITELY saying something). I ended up adding a splash of almond milk creamer to make it perfect, but I didn’t add nearly as much as I do in my regular coffee.
All in all, I would definitely buy this again and/or recommend this product. The ONLY downside is the cost. It is a bit more expensive than what I am used to. I definitely don’t mind paying for quality and flavor in certain situations. In fact, Grant and I ARE focusing on eating more whole, non-processed foods. But, I mean, I did eat a Poptart for breakfast this morning, so I don’t know if coffee is necessarily where I should start.
