Hi guys!! Welcome back! I can hardly believe it, but summer is practically here. My daughter graduated preschool last week and my son will be done with the first grade next week!!
(insert quote about time flying)
I’m finding that as a parent it’s a delicate balance between trying to cram as much fun stuff as possible into summer break and embracing the no-rush, no-plan, easy-going lifestyle that so many people dream about. I think it’s important to let kids be bored so they can use their imaginations to find ways to entertain themselves, however, I am also struck with a sense of panic anytime I think about how fast time is going! This is also about the time of year that the “We only have 18 summers with our kids” goes viral on Facebook…
The best way I have found to deal with the dilemma is to have everyone participate in the planning of the summer fun! Last year we all sat around together and made a huge list of things we wanted to do over the summer. No idea was too small and no idea was too extravagant – everything went on the list. It was a fun challenge to try and get everything crossed off the list before the first day of school!

Family Summer Bucket LIst Ideas
As I mentioned earlier, I think a family summer bucket list is the most fun if everyone in the family participates in the process. What we like to do is sit around the table and have everyone toss out summer activity ideas. No idea too great or too small! I throw them all together and hang them up on our kitchen bulletin board. I like to keep things like this displayed in a high-traffic area otherwise they tend to be forgotten about. Out of sight, out of mind and what not. Anytime we are bored or making plans for the weekend we glance up at the list and see if we can cross anything off!
Here are a few family summer bucket list ideas to get the ball rolling…
