Welcome to my "Not So Healthy Life"
Come along with me and re-live my past week. See how I came to realize that I really, REALLY need to adopt a healthy (or at least healthier) lifestyle.
But before we get into my new “healthy life,” I want to talk about how I always manage to get myself into awkward situations. I am really, REALLY good at it. Some might consider it a gift, others…don’t. I am going to tell you two classic “Awkward Julie” stories then move onto the healthy life content.
Awkward Story #1: My BFF & roommate just moved into our college dorm. First day on campus, super excited for our new adult-ish life! The world was at our fingertips yada yada yada. Anyway, we got all dolled up to go to our very first college party. We were walking across the quad (I don’t know that it was actually a “quad,” but that is what people always say in movies about college) when we heard two campus employees, who happened to be sitting on a bench we just passed, say “sure are a lot of beautiful women here!” Heck yes there are, we thought. Then they went onto say “too bad I don’t see any.” Rude, right? Luckily, we found, and still find it hilarious. Definitely rude though.
Awkward Story #2: I walked up to the front desk at one of my previous places of employment to have the receptionist say “you sure have gained a little weight, haven’t you?” Like, seriously? Not cool. Luckily for her, I loved her, so I laughed it off. Still, RUDE!
Check out this post if you want to learn more weird things about me!
Okay, back to regularly scheduled “healthy life” programming =)
This is not meant to shame anyone (except myself, obviously). However, if you find that you had a week similar to mine, then maybe you should take a minute and think about that – JUST KIDDING! But seriously, who doesn’t want to live a healthy life?
It's Time To Get Healthy (or at least healthier) When...
- Unbuttoning your pants is the only way to be comfortable sitting at your desk.
- Talking on the phone and walking up the stairs causes you to lose your breath. (I think this even happens to people who are in shape, right?).
- The cafeteria workers in your office building start getting your “chicken tenders & french fry” order ready when they see you coming. (I can only assume this is what a celebrity feels like).
- You are on a first name basis with the woman who works the McDonald’s drive-thru (Charlotte, you the real MVP!).
- You can’t wait for the kids to go to bed so that you can eat the good snacks without having to share.
- At the Pharmacy drive-thru your daughter asks for a hash brown (We really go to McDonald’s too much).
- At the dinner table, your son innocently comments “You sure have a lot of food on your plate” (FYI – Honesty isn’t always the best policy).
- You prefer to wear your husbands clothes around the house because they are a little baggier and your clothes are no longer baggy.
- You avoid the scale at all costs. (Hi, Denial! Nice to see you again!).
- You decide to unclasp your bra while sitting at your desk because you just can’t take it anymore (rock bottom).
While each of these things individually aren’t cause for alarm, all of them together…well, let’s just say it’s not a great place to be.
There will be no crazy diets over here, but I will start exercising a little more often (or at all) and try to make smarter, healthier choices with food and snacks.
I’ll update you in a few weeks and let you know how “the new me” is doing.
