Friday Five: 5 Things I'm Loving Now That I'm 35

I’ve been 35 for an entire week now.  Can you even believe it? Thirty five trips around the sun!  You probably can, but I sure can’t.  I still feel like I’m 25, so saying out loud “I am 35” is really strange.

I had a wonderful birthday.  I spent most of the day with some friends for some much needed girl time then came home to snuggle my babies and celebrate a little more.

There are a few things that I have been loving since turning 35 which is what I want to share with you. I mean, I am over here exploring uncharted territory.  I want to make sure everyone knows what to expect once they get to be as old as I am.

My friends and I have had this joke for as long as I can remember.  I am the oldest in our friend group, so everyone always asks me on my birthday what it’s like to be the next age.  It’s funny because they act as if I automatically learn  new skills or have a new outlook on life when my birthday comes around.

This week’s Friday Five I’m sharing five things that have changed since turning 35 and things I’m now loving.

1. Pajama Sets

As a 35-year-old wife and mother, I strive to give off the vibe that I have it all together.  I absolutely do not have it all together, but definitely striving for that vibe.  Looking put together is much easier said than done.  So, for starters, I am upgrading my nighttime wardrobe.  Gone are the day’s old T-shirts and oversized pajama pants.  Now that I am 35 I am totally into matching pajama sets.

Maybe my “put together” nighttime looks will spill over into my daytime appearance.

I’ve really been loving these matching PJ sets from Target.  Super comfy, soft with a lot of stretch.

2. Weighted Blankets

Obviously, I had heard of weighted blankets prior to turning 35.  In fact, I gave them to a few family members as Christmas gifts a few years ago.

When my husband asked what I wanted for my birthday I mentioned that I wanted to try a weighted blanket myself.  I am here to tell you that I am so glad I did!! I love this thing!

The only thing I don’t like about it is that I think it makes it even more difficult for me to get out of bed in the morning.  It’s either the weighted blanket that makes it difficult or its just more difficult to get out of bed when you turn 35 – I can’t be totally sure!

My son has even said he wants Santa to bring him a weighted blanket for Christmas (more Christmas Gift ideas here).  I think Santa may bring one similar to this

3. Investing In Myself

Another thing I’m loving is growing as a person.  Thirty-five-year-old me is investing in herself and proud of it.  I am buying the books and taking the classes that will help me get to where I want to be.

We only get one life, right? So why not spend it doing the things that make us happy and being the kind of person we want to be?

I’m actually really interested in trying an Everlywell food sensitivity test.  Have any of you tried it?  If so, what did you think?

4. Things That Bring Joy

I don’t know what came over me this week, but I got the sudden urge to just rip out a ton of plants in my vegetable garden.  They were becoming huge eyesores and I wasn’t really enjoying the fruit they were producing.  Why leave these things in my vegetable garden (the garden that I love) that aren’t making me happy?  There was no good reason, so out they came!

Marie Kondo was the originator of the idea that if something doesn’t bring you joy then you shouldn’t keep it in your life.  Thirty-five-year-old me is embracing this philosophy!  I am excited to see where it takes me.

5. Making My Bed Everyday

I’ve always heard that making your bed is important, for your mental health and overall productivity.  I’ve read books, (like  “Make Your Bed” written by a retired Navy SEAL), listened to the speakers, the podcasts, and also my friend’s parents (interestingly enough, my mom never made me make my bed).

Anyway, it never really sunk in until I turned 35 that making my bed was important.  It helps me feel accomplished and also prevents me from working from my bed (which ultimately prevents me from falling asleep).  Win/win.
