5 Pet Essentials: Pet Gear That Makes Your Life Easier

We are a family of pet lovers over here.  Our cast of characters includes 2 cats and a dog (I’m really pushing for either a kitten or a puppy – will keep you posted!).  Giving them the love and attention they deserve is practically a full-time job.  However, through the years of pet ownership, we have stumbled upon a few pet essentials that have made our lives easier.

We are firm believers that pets are your family.  We chose them, they didn’t choose us.  Therefore, we strive to give them the best lives we possibly can.  I mean, why even go through the trouble of adopting a pet if you aren’t going to love it and treat it right?

Anyway, I digress…

Pet essentials are on the docket today and I’ve got a few that have totally made our lives as pet owners easier.

Pet Essentials

My Pet Essentials

For the purpose of this “Friday Five” post I have narrowed it down to five pet essentials.  But, before we get started, what was my criteria for “pet essential”?  Easy.  These are pet related items that

  1.  Has solved some sort of pet-related problem
  2. I would continue to repurchase if/when it breaks
  3. I would recommend it to anyone

So, without further ado…

WOPet Feeder

I absolutely love my WOPet Feeder.  This was something I stumbled on when I was gearing up to travel to Hawaii this past year.  I had to come up with a way to feed my cats without requiring someone to stop by our house multiple times a day to feed them.  This automatic pet feeder was a godsend.  It can be programmed to dispense food up to 4x a day in whatever portion size you choose.  It’s fairly expensive, but worth every single penny.

Additionally, it solved another cat-related issue we had been dealing with for years.  Geezer, our orange boy, is a nighttime trouble maker. Always has been.  Every single night around 9pm he would start in with his shenanigans.  Scratching walls, scratching carpet, opening closets, etc.   What he wanted was for us to feed him.  Since this pet feeder allows for multiple feedings a day, we set one for in the middle of the night.  So far, it has worked and I couldn’t be more grateful!

Water Dispenser

Another pet gear item that is a must-have in our house is a big water bowl.  I don’t know what the deal is, but my cats drink a ton of water.  This was another concern when we were leaving for Hawaii, however with this big water bowl someone would only have to come fill it every few days.

It’s also difficult to knock over, which is an added bonus.

Pet Food Supply Subscription Service

Pet food subscription services don’t seem like they would be all that life-changing, right?  I mean, how hard is it to go to the store and grab a bag of dog food?

I’m here to tell you that having this responsibility off of my plate has made a world of difference.  When Grant was gone it was one less thing I had to worry about (and trust me, I needed all the space for worrying I could muster).  Chewy delivers our dog and cat food every 6 weeks.  They send an email prior a week prior to shipping.  This is helpful because if we aren’t quite ready for another delivery we can postpone. They also deliver toys, treats, and other pet supplies.

Invisible Fence

We had an invisible fence installed the day we moved into our house 6 years ago.  It has proved itself to be invaluable.   The way our house is positioned on our property it leaves a large portion of our yard in the front and side.  A traditional privacy fence would be incredibly expensive and would look awkward.  An invisible fence was the perfect option.

It is expensive, but not as expensive as a privacy fence.  Their customer service and warranties have been awesome.  We recommend invisible fence to everyone!

DIY Cat Litter Box

I am going to refrain from taking a picture of our DIY Cat Litter box (you are welcome).  However, this thing solved our issue of a dog helping herself to treats…if you know what I mean.

The DIY Cat Litter box is simple, yet brilliant.  We cut a hole in the top of a large plastic tote box.  We filled the tote with cat litter then stuck the lid on top.  The cats can jump down into the litter box to do their business, however a curious puppy/dog can’t get in there to disturb anything.  It’s been great…and cheap!
