Outdoor Wedding Decorations: A Beautiful Backyard Wedding

It Was A Beautiful Backyard Wedding...

A few weeks ago my brother got married during an outdoor wedding at my house. An outdoor wedding in June is a risky move here in the midwest.  You’ve got the heat, the rain, the mosquitos, and the humidity to contend with.  Luckily, other than it being a little warm, everything went perfectly.  The ceremony was simple, sophisticated, and intimate.

This post is titled “beautiful backyard wedding” and I have to confess, the title is a little misleading.  The wedding actually took place on our front lawn.  The way our house is situated on our property it leaves more room in the front yard than in the backyard.

But, who searches for front yard wedding ideas?  Not many.  So, I made the executive decision to list it as outdoor wedding decorations for a beautiful backyard wedding.  I hope you don’t feel bamboozled!

It was a small wedding with only 20 or so guests, so finding space to seat everyone wasn’t an issue.  However, just because they wanted something small and simple didn’t mean it couldn’t be  beautiful and special.

I am thrilled with how it all came together.  Scroll down to see a few of the images from that day!

Preparing For An Outdoor Wedding

There are a lot of things to consider before hosting an outdoor wedding:

  • Do you have enough space for the ceremony?
  • How does your landscaping look?
  • Do you have a “pretty” backdrop for the ceremony or are you staring directly into your neighbors backyard?
  • Do you have enough parking?
  • How does the exterior of your house look? Do you need to freshen the paint or use a pressure washer?
  • Where will everyone use the restroom?
  • Do you have space for the bride and groom to get ready?
  • Will your neighbors be hosting an event at the same time? Will they be mowing grass or having a tree removed on that date?

Those are just a few of the things we had to consider and/or address before hosting the wedding.  Space  wasn’t going to be an issue, but we were concerned about the parking.  Since we were having the wedding in our front yard we didn’t want to be able to see all the parked cars during the ceremony.  The solution was to ask the neighbors if we could park in front of their homes.  Thankfully they didn’t mind at all.

The weekend before the big day we pressure washed the exterior of our house (siding, gutters, porch, sidewalks, etc.) as well as the vinyl fence that surrounds our property.  We pulled weeds and deadheaded flowers, mowed the grass, and trimmed.

Since the wedding was so intimate there was plenty of room for everyone to move about my house freely (which meant that the inside of the house had to be in tip-top shape as well).

I also spoke to my neighbors and mentioned that we would be hosting a wedding just to make sure they weren’t planning a bon fire or a wild kegger in their front yard on that date (ha!).
