Hi, friends! I don’t know about you, but I am always on the lookout for new ways to keep my kids entertained, or better yet, ways for them to entertain themselves!! A few years ago I saw a post on Facebook about this DIY Racetrack for toy cars a woman made for her kiddos. She used scrap pieces of wood, a little spray paint, and voila! I thought it was so cute and so smart that I wanted to recreate it myself for my own kids!
*I can’t find the original post, but if I ever do I’ll be sure to add!
My son and I were having a “mommy-son” day one afternoon and I thought a DIY racetrack would be the perfect project for the two of us! We had such a good time working on this project together. The best part is that he was able to help with just about every step.
This DIY racetrack project turned out exactly as I’d hoped and cost nearly nothing. The only supply we didn’t already have on hand was the yellow duct tape.
Sand your pieces of scrap wood to prevent any splinters.
Wipe down boards with a damp cloth to remove any dust.
Once dry, use paint to cover the top and sides of boards with black paint. I left the bottoms of the boards raw, but you could totally paint those too. The black paint may require 2 or 3 coats.
Use yellow paint or yellow duct tape to create yellow lines down the center of the boards. I tried using paint but didn’t have the patience to make the yellow lines straight. I found using yellow duct tape to be easier and much quicker.
